To construct an effective removable partial denture restoring the defected maxilla, a kind of obturator which could be used for partially edentulous patient with hemimaxillectomy was devised.
The summarized technical procedures were as follows;
1. A preliminary alginate impression-taking.
2. Abutment preparation and impression-taking with polysulfide rubber, and then working model construction.
3. The surveyed crowns with pin & sleeve attachment were fabricated.
4. Pick-up impression was taken for the master cast.
5. Master cast was arbitrarilly blocked out and refractory cast was made.
6. Waxing for partial denture framework, casting, polishing and try-in.
7. Male and framework of the partial denture were soldered.
8. Wax occlusion rim was attached, vertical jaw relation checked and centric jaw relation registered.
9. Artificial teeth arranged, flasked, processed and finished.
After review of the above procedures, the author concluded as follows;
1. This obturator contributed satisfactorily to restoring the masticatory function, speech, swallowing and esthetics.
2. This removable partial denture was an effective prosthesis that restored the palatal defects after hemimaxillectomy.
